چکیده

The recharge efficiency during artificial groundwater (AGR) is reduced primarily by clogging that triggered suspended particles. However, there are loopholes in the current standards of recharge-water quality for control AGR, and threshold values turbidity to prevent have not been reasonably determined. In this study, secondary effluents from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) were injected into saturated sand columns simulate process AGR. Batch experiments under different conditions conducted, numerical modeling particle transport deposition was performed assess processes. Theories single-collector contact interfacial interaction energy applied elucidate possible microcosmic mechanisms. results showed diluted effluent (SE) with turbidities 0.540 ± 0.050, 1.09 1.84 0.060 NTU caused considerable porous media, which decreased relative hydraulic conductivities (K/K0) 13.2%, 17.6%, 83.6%, respectively. filtered SE a 0.160 did cause clogging, K/K0 only 1.70%. attributed particles matrix because they high collision (0.007–1.98) attachment (0.029–0.589 kBT). Finally, paper recommends water should exceed 0.500 AGR practices.

Electrochemical disinfection of secondary wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent.

In this work the electrochemical disinfection of the effluent of a secondary wastewater treatment plant is investigated. In the experimental work, performed on-site with real effluents of the WWTP located in Vuelta Ostrera (Cantabria, Spain), boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes were employed. The initial concentration of E. coli in the effluent of the WWTP varied in the range 1.3 x 10⁴-5.2 x 1...

A Study on Membrane Bioreactor for Water Reuse from the Effluent of Industrial Town Wastewater Treatment Plant

Background: Considering the toxic effects of heavy metals and microbial pathogens in industrial wastewaters, it is necessary to treat metal and microbial contaminated wastewater prior to disposal in the environment. The purpose of this study is to assess the removal of heavy metals pollution and microbial contamination from a mixture of municipal and industrial wastewater using membrane biorea...

Post-treatment of secondary wastewater treatment plant effluent using a two-stage fluidized bed bioreactor system

The aim of this study was to investigate the performance of a two-stage fluidized bed reactor (FBR) system for the post-treatment of secondary wastewater treatment plant effluents (Shahrak Gharb, Tehran, Iran). The proposed treatment scheme was evaluated using pilot-scale reactors (106-L of capacity) filled with PVC as the fluidized bed (first stage) and gravel for the filtration purpose (secon...

Pharmaceuticals in Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent Waters

Pharmaceuticals are being used at an increasing rate, and end up in wastewater through excretion and disposal. They also end up in the effluent water of wastewater treatment plants because they are not specifically designed for pharmaceutical removal. Several studies suggest diverse negative effects on aquatic life that are exposed to these trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in their habitats. Th...

Nutrient Elimination from Effluent of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Applying Horizontal Roughing Filter

High levels of turbidity and suspended solids are the major disadvantages of aerated lagoons. Aerated lagoon effluent filtration was investigated by Horizontal Roughing Filter (HRF). Removal efficiencies were determined by examining total phosphorus (TP) and total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) from HRF influent and effluent, simultaneously. HRF pilot system located on effluent pump station of Qom was...
